Nathan Powell Foundation
Nathan Powell Foundation is a small 501(c)(3) nonprofit raising funds while accepting applications for limited durable medical equipment assistance and eligible medical bills related to spinal cord injury.
Every application is reviewed individually, and assistance depends on eligibility, documentation, program fit, individual circumstances, and available funding.
We understand that the effects of a spinal cord injury go far beyond the initial medical emergency. Individuals and families may face ongoing expenses for equipment, repairs, supplies, medical care, transportation, and accessibility.
Our organization was created with the goal of easing some of those burdens.
We are a growing nonprofit with limited resources, building carefully—one step and one need at a time.
When Nathan Powell was 12 years old, he was shot and sustained a spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the chest down.
Through rehabilitation, determination, and the support of people who stood beside him, Nathan learned how to move forward through challenges he never expected to face. He also learned how difficult it can be to obtain necessary medical equipment and manage expenses that are not fully covered by insurance.
Those experiences inspired him to establish Nathan Powell Foundation in Missouri in 2022.
The foundation was established so that individuals living with spinal cord injuries would know they are not forgotten and do not have to face every challenge alone.
Our mission is to help people living with spinal cord injuries get the support they need to live with more independence, confidence, and hope.
We raise funds and review applications for durable medical equipment assistance and limited help toward eligible medical bills.
We envision a future in which more individuals living with spinal cord injuries can access helpful equipment, resources, and assistance as funding and program capacity allow.
As our organization grows, we hope to expand our ability to serve more individuals and families.
We treat every person with kindness, understanding, and dignity.
We are committed to using donations responsibly and being honest about what our organization can provide.
We support needs that can help individuals live with greater safety, mobility, and confidence.
We believe that even a small act of generosity can bring encouragement during a difficult time.
We believe meaningful change happens when individuals, businesses, organizations, and communities work together.

I never imagined that a spinal cord injury would change the course of my life. It brought challenges I was not prepared for and showed me how difficult it can be to obtain the equipment, resources, and support a person needs.
Those experiences are why I started this foundation.
My hope is that no one living with a spinal cord injury feels forgotten or alone. We may be a small organization, but we are building carefully so we can help real people with real needs.
